PERHAPS Contributor Has New Novel Out!

Terence Kuch, one of our contributors to Issue No2, has just released a new novel, The Seventh Effect. Here’s an interview with him below:

1. What kinds of fiction do you write?

Most of my fiction triangulates among literary, science fiction, and horror genres. My stories are set in the present or near future, and are about more-or-less normal people (no elves or wizards, and only the occasional zombie). “Weird” would be a fair description, but the best term is “conceptual fiction.” (Ted Gioia provides an excellent description of conceptual fiction at www.conceptualfiction.com.)

2. What do you do for fun and relaxation?

Write. Develop concepts and plots. Think about characters. Read.

3. Do you think you’ll ever retire from writing?

Yes. Feet-first.

4. Where do you see yourself as a writer ten years in the future?

Cult writer without a cult.

5. What story are you working on now?

Year 2012: With many misgivings, our protagonist attends his 20th high school reunion. He remembers the 1992 graduation party, at which he suffered various humiliations. As he circulates, encountering his old friends and enemies for the first time in 20 years, it gradually becomes 1992; now he is at the graduation party, not the reunion. Will things be different this time around? Has he been given the opportunity to change the past, or was the last 20 years of his life just a daydream?   6. What do you hope to write in the future?   I’m concentrating on short stories now, 3000 to 4500 words, as I prefer the concise form.

7. What can readers look for next from you?

My third novel, See/Saw, has just been accepted for publication.

8. Where can readers/fans find you?

(1) Google me. Since I have a nearly unique name, all the sick, misanthropic fiction you find for “Terence Kuch” is mine.

(2) www.terencekuch.com records my irresponsible opinions about language, fiction, and other topics, or email me at terencekuch@ymail.com.

(3) And, of course, Facebook.

Check out the bios of some of the writers and artists below:

Felino A. Soriano (b. 1974) is a case manager and advocate for adults with developmental and physical disabilities. In 2010, he was chosen for the Gertrude Stein “rose” prize for creativity in poetry from Wilderness House Literary Review.  Philosophical studies collocated with his connection to classic and avant-garde jazz explains motivation for poetic occurrences.  For information, including his 38 print and electronic collections of poetry, over 2,400 published poems, interviews, and editorships, please visit his website: www.felinoasoriano.info.

William D. Hicks is a writer who lives in Chicago, Illinois by himself (any offers?). Contrary to popular belief, he is not related to the famous comedian Bill Hicks (though he’s just as funny in his own right). Hicks will someday publish his memoirs, but most likely they will be about Bill Hicks’ life. His poetry has appeared in Outburst Magazine, The Legendary, Horizon Magazine, Breadcrumb Sins, Inwood Indiana Literary Magazine, The Short Humour Site (UK), The Four Cornered Universe, Save the Last Stall for Me, and Mosaic. His art appears in The Legendary and as cover art in Anti-Poetry and Sketch.

Rammer Martínez Sánchez (and yes, the name says it all) is one of those: makes comicbooks from its grassroots, composes graphic designs from all natures, draws conjurations of the unknown, scrawls sci-fi & fantastic weirdums, and dabs his liquid sword as Norrin Raa (as if his name wasn’t enough) filled with poetic eccentricities. He turned his name into an ambigram. He’s been in many places: part of an exhibition in the Baltimore Museum, nifty logo books, The Manhattan Times, anthologies from the comicbook world, Promethean Magazine, and now, here. Visit him at SmokyMirrors.com and @Rammerammer.

Cynthia K. Marshall works and plays in Dayton, OH. Her work has appeared in Full of Crow and Nexus.

Gwil James Thomas is 23 years old and currently resides in Brighton, England. The city that he sleeps, works and cycles around. More recently he’s had a couple of short stories published, continued work on a novel and gained a job as a kitchen porter.

Katerina Prudchenko’s short and flash stories have appeared and are forthcoming in print in The Nevada Review, the delinquent, Flash: The International Short-Short Story Magazine, Leaf Garden Press, and Kerouac’s Dog Magazine. She resides in Los Angeles.

David McLean is Welsh but has lived in Sweden since 1987. He lives there on an island in a large lake called Mälaren, very near to Stockholm, with woman, cats, and a couple of large black and tan dogs. He is an atheist, an anarchist and generally disgusting. He has a BA in History from Balliol, Oxford, and an MA in philosophy, taken much later and much more seriously studied for, from Stockholm. Up to date details of well over a thousand poems in various zines - both print and online, both degenerate and reputable - over the last three years or so are at his blog at http://mourningabortion.blogspot.com. There you will also find details of several currently available books and chapbooks - including three print full lengths, four print chapbooks, and a free electronic chapbook.

Our Mission Statement

This is one of our many attempts to conquer the world.  All past attempts have failed miserably, so we decided to start writing.  After all, it worked for Lenin!  What we’ve produced is the result of a dangerous collaboration between warring factions of artists, writers, and those who are caught in the middle.  PERHAPS, Issue 1:  I AM WRONG ABOUT THE WORLD illustrates why.

By not narrowing and limiting submissions to a theme or subgroup, we allow the art to develop a story arc itself. Each edition of PERHAPS is visual and literary collage, mapping the intricacies of our diverse landscape with emotions and thought. PERHAPS is both meant to be experienced as a whole “exhibit” and as a compilation of individual works. This scattered and structured nature of PERHAPS fuels its creativity.
